test posting.

UPDATE: It seems that this post has garnered a bit more attention than I originally intended. I was testing the post-dating feature of LJ for my brother, no more, no less. Even so, I find it entertaining that it has garnered any attention, let alone feedback. :)

May. 11th, 2007 @ 01:51 am Apple's Steve Jobs to Greenpeace: NO, to the Pain!
Steve Jobs Tore Greenpeace apart under thinly veiled language. The story follows:

Business 2.0 picked up a herevery skewed response from Greenpeace as an update for the original article. Quothe the great Greenpeace:
Put a happy tune on your ipod and do a happy dance. You've proven you can make a real difference. You convinced one of the world's most cutting edge companies to cut the toxic ingredients out of the products they sell.

Greenpeace claimed that they got apple to change it's policy on the environment. They didn't. Apple already does what other companies only promise to do, but don't make promises. No promise, no PR. Oops. ;)

And then Greenpeace tried again at Apple's Shareholder Meeting. Led by the Great Iza Kruszewska, Greenpeace proceeded to flop about the boardroom's floor, flailing wildly like a turtle on it's back. Steve Jobs tried to help them out, but their flailing became particularly violent, overturning furniture and knocking out a few attendees. Steve then puts them out of their misery, with this brief summary:

Jobs also blasted the criteria behind Greenpeace's highly publicized Greener Guide to Electronics, which ranks a random assortment of manufactures according to commitments listed on their websites.

Jobs said Greenpeace needed to develop rankings that reflected what companies actually do, not just what they promise to do at some point in the future.

Right across the starboard bow! Blammo to Greanpeace. I wonder how the Reality Distortion Field surrounding One Infinite Loop will bear against mindless eco-zombies with scents reminiscent of foot funk and lilac.

Stay Tuned!

Life as it stands is about as good as it gets for the next month or two.

School wise, I have very little to do. On Mondays & Wednesdays between the hours of 10 and Noon, I have Statistics. Over the course of 10 weeks, 2 days are dedicated to exams, and there’s one half hour quiz each week. Review is important, and takes up an additional 2 hours a week. After class, I usually stay on campus for an hour or two to talk to some friends & eat with the gourmond society, when possible.

The next aspect of my life worth discussing is my job search. 10 hours on campus a week leaves another 30 hours in a full time week. In the past week, I spent at least 10 hours looking for employment. I plan to take it to 15-20 hours this week. This may be difficult, as there’s alot of time between calls at first. If I’m not careful, I could end up with 3 or more interviews a day, and I’ll burn out. Even so, I have 2 phone calls to make tomorrow, and will be spending quality time with dice.com.

I have decided to try out some different blogging software on my web space at The Fellowship of Luck, because I am interested in experimenting with audio posts, and don't feel like paying livejournal for the privilege. In addition, I'll eventually theme the wiki like the blog, and integrate the two. It'll bring my online life a little closer together.

Unfortunately, it will also, to an extent, kill of my LJ account. I'd rather keep the account working, but don't see a way around it if I like WordPress. If any of you have a paid account, let me know. I may have a favor to ask you. :)

There's nothing on it atm, but my new blog is at blog.FellowshipOfLuck.org. The URL is a bit of a Doosie, but should work out well enough. :)

Feb. 1st, 2007 @ 01:32 pm Documentary: Why We Fight
A documentary about the evolution of Eisenhower's military-industrial complex, Why We Fight, recently made it to 1st place on the top 100 at Google Video. I saw this movie a few years ago at the Ritz East theater, and highly recommend watching it.

The Trailer

The full movie is available on Google Video for online viewing, downloading for the Google Video player, and iPod Video.

In other news, Journler is neat, but doesn't embed X/HTML objects. Long story short: I couldn't include the embedded video, above. It'd be neat if the entry content is expandable with plugins. Then, I could write a plugin to allow embedded HTML, or at least a converter for object tags. :D

When SVG support comes out in the next version or two, I have a feeling it will become the repository for many of the notes on Heights--for when I percolate my notebook to mechanics. More on that later.

Here's an odd music video: Go West - King of Wishful Thinking. Featuring Zebra, Elephants, a Julia Roberts impersonator, a king, more Zebra, the Pope, elvis, and, of course, Go West.

Ooooh... new posting interface. Includes auto-saving, adding rich-text... that's neat.

The real reason I make this post: I present to you all the "Coolguyzak" userpic:

Nov. 30th, 2006 @ 11:05 pm Another interesting documentary
Once again, courtesy of Google Video: Orwell Rolls in His Grave - A documentary on the mass media of America.

I know what you're thinking. It mentions Orwell in the title, and I don't want to watch any more 1984 hoopla. So far, I feel that it is at least moderately educational, and the rhetoric isn't as thick as some of the others I have seen.

Oh, speaking of which, please remind me at a later time to rant about my Mass Media & Society class. ;)

UPDATE: Firstly, the audio goes out of sync with the video near the end.

That said, the rhetoric gently increases as the documentary continues, as do the explanations. Overall, other then the background music, I'd say it was pretty good.

And I still expect someone to remind me to rant about Mass Media ;DD

Nov. 20th, 2006 @ 10:26 pm Documentaries
With the rest of my day, I decided to watch documentaries. Few choice ones from Google video:
An Inconvenient Truth - Gore's rhetorical snippets get mildly annoying, but a good presentation nonetheless.
The Corporation - This one's just great, albeit it gets a bit drawn out at the end. There are a few places where subtitles are not provided, and the names of speakers are not shown. Rich and I believe it may be because the bottom chunk of the video was removed. Likely, though, this is a screener or rough cut.

A bunch of people from my Globalization class may be stopping by the site to find a documentary that Dr. Machado mentioned in class. I can't find the previous links to it, so here it is: The Power of Nightmares (2, 3).
